3 Easy Ways To Showcase Your Naturally Curly Hair

Bob Adams

This fall, having naturally curly hair is in again. You don't need to worry about straightening your curls this fall; instead you just need to worry about how to flaunt them and showcase them! Here are three easy ways to make your curls look as great as possible.

#1 Modify How You Wash & Condition Your Curls

If you want to wear your hair in its naturally curly state, you may need to change how you take care of your hair. You hair has different needs when you are planning on wearing it naturally verses when you are straightening it all the time.

When you have curly hair, you shouldn't wash your hair every day like is recommended for individuals with straight hair. By washing your hair on a daily basis, you are stripping away the natural oils that will help keep your curls in control and looking great. When wearing your hair naturally curly, it is only necessary to wash your hair every two to three days. Reducing how often you wash your hair will let the natural oils in your hair moisturize your curls and keep them smooth instead of frizzy.

Just because you are not washing your hair everyday with shampoo does not mean that you are skipping the shower every day. When you don't wash your hair, you should either apply regular moisturizing conditioner to your hair when you shower or apply a leave-in conditioner instead. Try to rotate between regular conditioning and leave-in conditioning. Additionally, it is a good idea to use a deep conditioner two to three times a month to help your hair seal in the moisture it needs for bouncing curls.

#2 Stopping Brushing Your Hair When Dry

Next, you need to stop running your hair brush through your hair when it is dry. When you brush your hair when it is dry, it can cause your hair strands to break. It can also turn your smooth curls into a mess of brushed-out, big frizzy hair that looks more like you stepped out of an 80's film.

Instead, you should gently comb your hair when it is still wet or damp when you get out of the shower. Use a wide-tooth comb to comb your hair. This will allow your hair strands to separate out and detangle without becoming broken or losing the style. You can even comb your curls with a wide-tooth comb in the shower before you rinse out the conditioner in your hair formore ease.

#3 Get Rid Of All That Heat

You don't need a lot of heat to get great natural curls. The most heat you apply to your hair, the more likely it is that you are actually damaging your hair. Heat can result in fizzy curls and broken strands over time.

To style your natural curls, it is best to just let your hair air dry. If you don't want your hair to be dripping wet when you leave the house, use a hair dryer set on cool heat with a diffuser. This will help remove some of the wetness from your hair and will distribute the hair around your curls more evenly with the diffuser. This will help your curls be less frizzy and more smooth.

About Me
A New Hairstyle for Summer

For me, summer is a busy season. During this beautiful, warm time of the year, I like to go to the beach, play with my dog outside, go swimming, and engage in other fun outdoor activities. Because I spend more time outside during the summer months, having a low maintenance hairstyle is crucial. I prefer to keep my hair shoulder-length at this time. In doing so, I can put my hair up in a ponytail. However, because my hair isn’t extremely long, it won’t get weighed down by stifling humidity. If you like to spend your days in the great outdoors when the weather is warm outside, consider visiting a salon near you in order to get a fun, new hairstyle. On this blog, I hope you will discover the best haircuts for outdoor enthusiasts, no matter the season.
